SAIS International Policy Program

A dozen SAIS students traveled over 10,000 kilometers in China to understand the country's endeavor to tackle its energy and environmental challenges. We met a wide variety of people, including policymakers from the Chinese government, energy experts from Chinese think tanks, representatives from foreign oil companies, environmental NGO and Chinese energy companies. We also did numerous site visits, including a coal mine, a landfill gas-fire power plant, a biomass-fired power plant, a hydroelectric plant, and a nuclear power plant. This site offers some of what we saw and were able to learn on our trip, and points to other resources for research. This trip was made possible by the generous support of ExxonMobil and the Starr Foundation.
